Day 11: A Day in Dingle

Today started out as a cold, rainy, grey day. I had a conversation with a woman this morning named Maureen who came originally from this area . I was hoping she could direct me to my Grandmother's House . She made a couple of calls for me but I was just asking for information that was too far removed from the people who lived here.
After breakfast I work downtown to a pottery shop that was owned by a man named Brian O'Sullivan. His mother came from inchiglogh and she often worked at the store period he told me she would be in tomorrow and hopefully she can give me some information on what happened to the house. That will be my first order of business for tomorrow morning period
While I was downtown I bath my armband for the Music and Arts festival. It really doesn't start until tomorrow and maybe I will go down and listen to some music tomorrow evening period I just really don't like going into pubs even to listen to music all by myself.
I thought about heading down the ring of Kerry but the traffic especially with the tour buses was unbelievable. They were just lined up stopped waiting to move and I really didn't feel like being in that traffic. So I said I had never been to Dingle. So off to Dingle I went.
It took about 45 minutes to enter the Dingle Peninsula as there was a little traffic but really not too bad. This drive was worth it. Even with the overcast skies, the scenery was out of this world . The ocean and the coastline with the beautiful green of the fields contrasting the lovely aquamarine of the ocean. It was breathtaking. They were very few places where I was able to stop to take pictures and I took every advantage when I could. As I get further and further on to the Peninsula the roads got narrower and narrower.
There was a lot of traffic but it kept moving and it really didn't hinder me from being able to see item of ride along. As I got further on to the Peninsula the cliffs gets deeper and deeper and the Road kept rising forever and forever up .
I kept thinking about Ryan's Daughter, the movie. The scenery was every bit as beautiful. I was even able to get down to a beach were people were actually swimming period I know that water had to have been cold. Most of the people in the water were young kids and none of them stayed in very long . The surf was crashing against the rocks and it really made very dramatic scenery period
Many of the houses along the Peninsula were told anyone many that were in ruins period to live in one of those is a vacation home would be very nice. I would not want to live here all year round as I believe especially in the winter it would be very desolate.
The nice thing about this afternoon is that the sun finally came out and they were big blue patches in the sky as I got to Land's End . It's made it so much more pretty with the sun shining on the fields and glittering after water. By the time I reach the beach the temperature was actually warm period I was so lucky considering how that day had started .
Is that he'd finally made the complete circle in my day was complete as I drove back to Cahersiveen the fog rolled in with a vengeance. I was really glad to get back to the town and be able to sit down and have dinner. I've done enough driving for one day period a little Chinese vegetables and now I'm back at my B&B enjoying the beautiful view out the front window period this was a wonderful choice of a B&B period my room is comfortable the owners of pleasant and accommodating and the view from the front window is amazing period
As beautiful as all of this is I can't imagine living here . It is just so bleak when the sun isn't shining . And I think that happens a lot.
